Moreover, users should pay for their actual use instead of taxpayers Our General Fund also receives some lodging and utility taxes, but the amounts are limited. Q: Can’t the City use the General Fund to cover the gaps?Ī: Bandon has the lowest permanent tax rate of any city in Oregon with a population of over 750 people. Q: Why is the City asking for Utility Rate Increases?Ī: Currently water and sewer rates don’t cover the full cost of operating those utilities. As many of you know, this is because of a unique provision of Bandon’s City Charter, which was added in the mid-1990s. Most cities and companies look at rates frequently. So i do not mean to diss the owners. On May 16, voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on water, sewer, and electric rates. Anyway, when we left, fed after all and having met good, friendly, hardworking people, we agreed that, to the vast majority of Americans, these little things that troubled us would be no trouble at all. But i imagine they cooked the thing by microwaving! It would get a 3 on my 1-5 for satisfactory burgers the potato salad, ditto the chai and the water, each a 1 (the worst). I thought the squarish, foccacia-like buns were a nice touch, and tasty, too. Well, we got through the Veggie Burgers, which were okay-the usual mayo, whitish tomato, and pale lettuce on them. We concluded that they must fill the jug with tap water, or maybe put little chlorine disks in a huge jug of formerly-good water, out back or something. (Again, the kitchen gal was sweet and willing to help us out-i appreciate that!) But filled with water, again that horrible chlorine stench. So i asked for a disposable cup, which smelled clean and free of untoward odors. Can you ask for a paper or plastic cup?" I sniffed it and said, "Whoa, that's so chlorinated, it must be the water." But Daughter thought the dispenser showed that this was delivered spring water. She whispered, "Mom, i can't drink this it's so chlorinated! I think it must be the glass. Meantime, my daughter had grabbed a glass of water from the upside-down blue plastic jug dispenser. Wrong! It was that type of chai i really detest-so sweet that a couple of spoonfuls might be okay, over ice cream or something, like caramel sauce but a whole cup of this cloying sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon celebration was in no way anything i could finish. Although i can handle Oregon, i consider it sweeter than i like so i enthusiastically said YES! to this alternative. I asked, "What kind do you use? Is it Oregon Chai?" No, they answered, it was another kind (i didn't catch the brand name), and they said it was not as sweet as Oregon Chai. But there was a potato salad which was fine. The side salad had meat in it as an alternative, the broccoli salad was offered, but i said, "Might that have bacon in it?" Yes, yes indeed it had bacon. Which was fine i went without the onions, but wondered how they grill the burgers without a grill. OK, how about i have a Veggie Burger with grilled onions? Um, no, they don't have a grill, so it's either raw onions or none. Soup? No, both were made with chicken broth. first there was the difficulty of my vegetarianism. I am a vegetarian who usually eats organic food and drinks chlorine-free mountain water. However! Honesty is my policy, and i hope it will benefit other travellers. So i didn't want to be disappointed, and am reluctant to leave a less-than-positive review. We were glad we found the place open, and based on the Yelp reviews, i had been counting on it to be quite a satisfactory experience. That's saying quite a bit considering not much else was open in Bandon on a stormy December mid-afternoon: the two women working there were warm and welcoming, and did their best to accommodate our picky little requests. Oh, the people are nice and the place is clean. this is not a "foodie" place, not a place that people who really care about the quality and sources of their food would frequent.
